Move an individual note to a different layer

Is it possible to move an individual NOTE to a different layer?
I am using Finale Print Music 2011 on MAC OS X 10.6.7.
If using the select tool, I select a whole measure (i.e., the whole measure has the "blue rectangle" of highlighting) then I can use the pulldown Edit -> Move/Copy Layers.
However, if I select a single note by clicking on the note (and seeing a small blue rectangle of highlight around the note) then the pulldown Edit -> Move/Copy Layers is greyed out.
Is there no way to move an individual note to another layer? I am finding that my scans usually get the right notes but often they are put in the wrong layer. It would be a simple fix to just move the errant notes to the correct layer but I can't seem to do it.

Not as far as I know. You will probably have to delete the bad note, or change it to a rest, and re-enter it in the other layer. Sometimes, you need to delete and re-enter the entire measure.
Another reason why most of us prefer to just enter the notes, rather than scan, proofread, and correct.

Any update on this important feature? Even Finale does not have it. It's been a million times that I had to move just a group of notes to another layer, whether it be from an incorrect scan, or me changing my mind about layering my notes. This feature must be put into Finale 2012!
Just a heads up: My former music notation software, which is primitive compared to Finale, allowed me to do this, even though it only allowed two layers.

The "full" Finale has "Move/Copy Layers" (Edit menu), but for whole measures, not for single notes.

Child programs do, as well.michelp wrote:The "full" Finale has "Move/Copy Layers" (Edit menu), but for whole measures, not for single notes.

Ok, I waited and waited and waited. Now Finale 2012 is out.miker wrote:You'll have to wait until 2012 is released, to see if there is any change.
So I tried moving only part of a measure to another layer with Finale 2012, and still can't figure how to do it. Does anyone know how to do it with Finale 2012? This is the MOST important feature I need.
Finale PrintMusic 2011. Windows XP. Considering upgrading to Finale.

I suspect that it's a little more complicated than that. What would happen to the other notes in that layer? Would they move forward or back? Still, you can submit your request to Finale through the Support system.

...and here I am in the same boat. A bad scan and needing to move a note here and there to a different layer. Is there still no way to do it?

Nope. Delete and re-enter in the other layer.
You said this was from a scan. Did you use a real scanning program, like SmartScore, or a "black box" that just spits out an XML with no opportunity to edit?

I'm trying to imagine what moving a single note to another layer means. Does it replace whatever's there on that beat for that note value? Did the scan somehow recognize that two layers were needed from stem direction? If so, how did it get confused?

I have also wondered why they can't add this feature. For all you people who say, "just delete it and add it manually"... the whole point of a program is to make things more efficient. As far as "what would happen to the other notes in that layer?" Finale could offer a popup choice that you could choose what to do with the other notes in the layer or you could have a list of settings for this feature and there it could have a default for what happens when you use this feature... if you want the default to do something different, you could change the default. The feature would add a benefit. IMO
