I am trying to use Finale 2008. In the online help they show the General folder that includes a Piano Staff template. The General folder installed from my Finale DVD has only Lead Sheet, Lead Sheet (Jazz Font), Lyrics and Chords, and Rhythm Section Generator. Do you have to pay for an upgraded Finale to get the piano staff template?

I could be wrong here, but I don't think that Finale 2008 comes with a ready made Grand Staff piano template.

However, you can easily create the template yourself, via the Document Setup Wizard (File menu > New > Document With Setup Wizard...).

You can save your new Grand Staff piano template in the General folder (or whereever you want it).

Are you sure you're using a legitimate copy of the full Finale, and not one of the child products?

There should be lot more templates than those you list.

In any case, as Peter says, you can set up your piano doc from the Wizard, and save it as a template.

Effectively it doesn't appear at first glance.

To open a new piano score:

go to default wizard setup, will appear a first page named " create ensemble";

click on next, and a second page named "blank staff" for single instruments will appear;

click on keyboards, and you're done.

I believe the window is labeled "Add or Delete Instruments." You can also get a grand staff by clicking Empty Staves. Add it to the document.

Then there is a button Save as New Ensemble; click this and name it, and your grand staff will be among the choices next time.
