Hi all,
I've recently adopted Google's Raleway font (https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Raleway) as my default Finale font for things like titles, composer name, and also the name of the part in a piece. Unsurprisingly, however, Raleway doesn't have a symbol for a flat sign.
I was wondering, therefore, if someone can tell me how I might insert a flat sign (using Maestro font, for example) into the "Score Name" Insert section of the Score Manager, when I have the rest of the text in the part/score name in the Raleway font. Is there a way I can have two fonts in that "Score Name" function?
Thanks as always,
Andrew Harrison

It is not possible to have 2 fonts in the File Info -> Score Name box.
But if you go to the score, you can add another text (which uses another font in the same text box, after or before the Score name).
It would more complicated if the musical symbol has to be in the middle of the score name. In this case, I guess the solution is to use a regular text box (not an Insert).

Unless I am misunderstanding you there certainly is a way to do this. You can have different fonts in the File Score Name or any ordinary text block as indicated here.

Is this where the OP is asking about. No problem here either, its just a text block and subject to the same controls.

No, he is referring to Score Manager > File Info.
Once it appears in the score it can be edited, but not in the File Info box.

Normally I would not be at my computer at this time. Today I happen to be working on a piece that needs to be out today.
I guess a good thing since I am not understanding, to dense today, exactly where you all are talking about.

ebiggs,
When you put information into the File Info, then it adds that info to the score and all parts. So I assume the OP wants to add a flat in the File Info so he doesn't have to edit the title on every part.

But you can only add other text before or after it.Bill Stevens wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 6:48 pmOnce it appears in the score it can be edited, but not in the File Info box.
I'm curious why the score name would have a flat it in, but what I would do would be to use a common text box with score/part name in every part, but not the score, using a separate text box for the score only. Then it doesn't matter what "Score manager/Score name" is.

The text insert “Score Name” is meant for the word ‘Score’ - or a translation of the word ‘Score’, such asAndrew Harrison wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 11:51 am… I've recently adopted Google's Raleway font (https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Raleway) as my default Finale font for things like titles, composer name, and also the name of the part in a piece. Partitura (= italian)
Partition (= french)
I do not understand why you need a flat accidental in the Score Name.
Perhaps you mean another text insert than Score Name, e. g. Title?
The better we understand, the better we can help.
What are you trying to achieve?
How are you trying to do it?
What happens when you do that?
What doesn't happen that you expect to happen?

As near as I can tell, the Title frame in Score Manager won't take a symbol, even if It's in the font. I entered the title on the page, using Finale Maestro Text, which does have the flat symbol. But when I looked in Score Manager, the flat entered as the missing character box, which was also promulgated on following pages.
It looks like it just isn't a happening thing. You might want to send in a feature request (for all the good it will do...)

OK had some coffee and if I am now in the right place, it can't be done in Score Manager but it can be done.
Simply edit it with the Text dropdown. I hope I am understanding the problem. However each occurrence will need the same editing.

For some strange reason Finale turns off the right click mouse button in text blocks.

The issue is this: Finale gives you a way to have a single text block linked between the score and all parts that you can use to label the part or score in a uniform way, via the "Part/score name" insert:
Of course you can have a special text block for the score and do whatever you want. But in that case you would need to hide it in the parts, and hide the text block that's in the parts in the score, which is more trouble. The O.P. was merely seeking to avoid this trouble by being able to use one text block, and wondering if you can put a flat in the score name in the same way you can in a part name. Apparently you can't.
Make sense?
You set the part name in the Manage Parts dialog. How do you set the score name? In the File Info tab of the Score manager.
With this system, you need have only one text block to serve everyone.Of course you can have a special text block for the score and do whatever you want. Right click doesn't work in the Expression Designer, either, or the Lyrics window, I think because there's nothing for right-clicking to do, so I'm not sure it's strange. What were you hoping to use it for?

Well you can do it but you need to use Finale's edit menu instead of the familiar MS copy, C, paste, V, delete, X, contextual menus.

Hello everyone,
Thanks a lot, as always, for the great replies to my question. I was referring to the part name - ie I didn't want to write the word 'flat' or a lower case 'b' for the Trumpet. I've just gone with a text box, as someone suggested, and that has worked out okay.
All the best,
Andrew Harrison

Thanks Motet, yes, that's it! Apologies if there was confusion. It's what the insert is called in Finale...

Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, and Delete seem to work, though (but not Ctrl+X), so you don't need the edit menu. But I agree with you that the standard Windows UI should work, and would be convenient to those who are used to that.

On Windows you can enter a flat or sharp in a part name (Manage Parts) by typing Ctrl+Shift+F and Ctrl+Shift+S respectively, without explicitly changing fonts. Is there something equivalent on the Mac?

On the Mac (where Ctrl is often replaced by the Cmd key), it is Cmd+Shift + F and S.
In the part name (Manage Parts -> Edit Part Name), the characters don't display the musical symbol, but they are fine on the part.
