complex meter

In the attached example it shows 6/8 meter but I'd like the bass clef in this example to be 2/4 while the treble clef remains 6/8. Meas.13 gives an approximate idea of what it should look like, except the LH would be four eighth notes, no triplet bracket. In the example, the LH meas.1-8 is written wrong. How do I do it? Thanks.

Here are two different solutions.
The first solution is more time consuming, but it is versatile, universal; you can do anything.
The second solution is faster, but it has limitations.

Independent time signatures have a bug when drawing hairpins. What are the other limitations, Peter? Can you say more about "This solution works best where the ‘primary’ time signature (= 6/8) is bigger than the ‘independent’ time signature (= 2/4), to obtain the best music spacing."? I've used mixed 6/8 and 2/4 occasionally but don't remember music spacing issues (maybe I was lucky and the primary was always 6/8).

I also found a bug, in that when I tried copy/paste it didn't work.
