How to manage abbreviated staff names when the two staves system changes to the four staves system?

For the doubled staves I would use a Staff Group, and use the group’s Abbreviated Name.

Yes, but also the numbering.

1) For the staff numbering you could try a custom staff style.


2) Finale also has an option for “automatic” numbering.
The option may not be exactly what you need.

Window menu > ScoreManager > Instrument List
In the lower left corner of the window {Instrument List} there is a pop up menu for various Auto-Number Styles.

Ah, very clever--a combination of staff styles and groups that only span partial measure ranges. A rather manual process that you'd have to wait until all the system breaks and staff hiding are done to employ, though.
