Spacing issue when exiting speedy entry
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
This was never a problem before...2011? I think? It started somewhere around 2014 or so, and I figured at some point it would be fixed. It never was.
Issue is when I'm entering notes via speedy entry, then switch tools, the spacing does not update. The workaround is to use the "fit measures" tool which respaces the music. But I would rather the spacing automatically update when I'm switching tools, since it interupts my workflow to fix this.

Looks like you've got Automatic Music Spacing turned off in Preferences. Turn it on and leave it on--there's nothing to be gained by having it off. I know Mike will disagree, but it's Automatic Music Spacing that's messing with your manual spacing, not Automatic Update Layout, which is only a screen-display relic from the days of slow displays.
Thanks!
Hate to be that guy, though, but it turns out that Automatic Update Layout was the one turned off, not Music Spacing!
I don't think I've turned that off on this laptop, but I'd be surprised if I didn't mess with it on my desktop in years past...but I figured new versions (or new computers) would have had those options on automatically. One of my main clients is VERY avant-garde, so spacing is definitely a big thing when it comes to his works.

You're right. If it WAS me that changed it, it was well over a decade ago. The funny thing is, I've not had this computer for nearly that long, and I just installed the most recent Finale a few months back. Unless Finale keeps profiles of the programs and moves these kinds of settings around, but I doubt it, since shortcuts are never saved!
Yeah. It seems like something I wouldn't have messed with. I haven't done much work for the clients that this setting might benefit with much in the last 5 years or so, so I'm not sure why it would have changed.
