Running recent Finale on macOS, two versions.
I'm suddenly experiencing a cascading series of problems on a small project of mine.
I'll these as separate problems.

First: I insert simple repeats, but on playback, they do not repeat. If I construct a simple Are You Sleeping type file and put in a repeat, it works fine, i.e. I hear the repeats on playback. So I'm doing the right thing. I don't use repeats often in my music so needed to check myself.

Some detail for background:

The project is a short piano piece I composed two years ago. It occurred to me to expand it, to structure it like a Scarlatti sonata, i.e. a first part and a second part that are each repeated verbatim. I also plan to add a few measures of coda but haven't gotten to that yet. It's always played back fine as just the first part.

I added an equal number of measures and inserted a normal repeat where the piece previously ended and composed a few more measures. The first part has never repeated. I added music through the second part and let it play, but it doesn't repeat, either.

I tried putting a repeat sign at the beginning, which should not be necessary, but it makes no difference. There is one at the beginning of the second section, of course.

This is completely normal music structurally, i.e. no trickery involved, even if the music itself does sound a bit Cecil Taylorish.

And as I said, if I create another example, the playback repeats work fine.

Doe anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong? I'm sure it's me and not Finale.

I'm not sure it's you. If other files, or new files, are playing back correctly, I would suspect a problem with that file. Try exporting it as an XML, and importing it back in. That seems to clear up a bit of corruption.

… I insert simple repeats …
What were your steps when you did that?
Did you do it all by yourself, “manually”?

The following steps work for me:

Select the region to be repeated.
Repeat Tool.
Repeat menu > Create Simple Repeat

= letting the Repeat Tool create the repeat - rather than inserting “manually”.

The best thing is, if you can u/l that offending file to a Dropbox or Google drive and let us have a look at it. I am positive one of us will have an answer. Post your file and give us the link. You can delete it after we look see.

Also, it is possible to attach a Finale document to a post here - provided that the file size does not exceed the limit for attachments in the forum.

Wowser! That cleared up two of my problems at once.

I assume an XML is the file that is saved with a .xml extension.

I tried that, opened it directly, and it looked the same to me, including all the text objects (title etc.)
Upon doing that:

1) It plays back, i.e. I can hear the audio.

Now all I have to worry about is how to make my missing floating windows reappear.
I'll update all

I think I pressed a wrong button and sent off my previous message prematurely and don't know how to retrieve it. Maybe I can't.

Anyhow, I did what was recommended, saved it to an XML file (I assume that's the file that has the extension .mxl) and reopened it.

1) Repeats now work.

2) It also plays back. i.e. I can hear it.

I'll update the other problem report accordingly.

Never mind my previous partial reply.
An admin can delete it if that's possible and a thing that's done.
