I've just noticed that the final system on each page of my document is repeated at the top of the following page (obviously only in page view). When I select and cancel either of the two systems, the other one is also cancelled. What can I do? (I have to meet an urgent deadline, and I can't seem to get around this problem).

Have you tried Utilities->"Update Layout" (with page 1 on your screen in page view) ?

Remember to use the "Update Layout" trick whenever a funny display problem occurs. In page view, it applies to the page displayed on the screen and the following ones, not the previous ones.
Use it systematically after applying music spacing (Utilites->Music Spacing->...).
