When creating a new stave mid-project, the new stave will show up in all the systems. It's a pain to hide the new stave from these systems. Is there a way to create a new stave and not have it show immediately in the project?

Are you using the full Finale, or one of the smaller "siblings" in the family?

What version?
Finale 2011 is quite different from the older versions.

Finale 2011 works "the other way around":
You must first add the new staff, and next tell Finale, where you want to hide it.

To hide the new staff everywhere in the first region of the document:
Staff Tool.
Highlight the new staff in all the measures of the first region (where you want to hide the staff).
Staff menu > Hide Empty Staves
The hidden staff will still be visible in Scroll View.

Another solution (slightly different):
Add the new staff, then select the entire new staff, by clicking to the left of the staff.
Staff menu > Hide Empty Staves
This step will hide the new staff everywhere in the document.
Enter music into the new staff via Scroll View.
The new, hidden staff will automatically be shown in Page View where you have added music to the staff.

Hi
I'm having the same trouble here. The thing is I use Finale 2010. Can I have your assistance with this?

I need to combine/join charts with different staves on the same page. For example, I need a grand staff (both G and F clef or Treble clef and Bass clef) on the first system. For the second system, I only need the G clef/Treble clef and I wish to hide the F clef/Bass clef).

Your reply is very much appreciated.

Thanks and good day.

As Peter explains, the method was different until version 2010.
In 2010 and earlier versions, one uses "optimization".
The principle is as follows :
Create the new staff right from the start.
Optimization will be applied after the music has been entered and at the time you want to finalize your layout
Go to Page view .
Page Layout tool->menu->Optimize staff systems
Select a range of systems and apply.
Optimization will only be possible if the staves are really empty (no "entered" rests) and if no restrictions are defined in staff attributes, staff style of the moment, group definition.
I hope this will get you started.
(PS : if the staves you want to hide are not empty, it is a different method).
