Is there a
shortcut key that sets the focus to the
next stave within a system?
If not, is there a series of kbd menu items I can invoke in sequence (with a macro) that would do the same?
I want to land in the same bar (or even beat where that is appropriate) – but in the next stave down; and jump from the bottom stave to the top stave in the system.
I want to avoid picking up the mouse just to switch between staves. Its
very analogous to switching layers within one stave - which I do all the time with kbd - I just want the same effect when my '
layers' are distributed across staves.
Many apologies if the answer to my question is obvious
– I have googled but without any success

In Speedy, on the Mac, the Return key jumps to the next staff below, same measure. Shift + Return jumps to the staff above.

In Windows it's shift + down arrow (or shift + up arrow to go up a stave). If you click Speedy on the task bar it displays Speedy edit and navigation command sub menus.

thank you for the quick and correct answer. Not sure how I missed that.
It doesn't work in every mode, particularly in simple entry mode it actually causes the note to move down an octave (in comparison 'Layer switching' just moves to a different layer in the counterpoint on the same staff)
However, most of the time when I'm doing this I'm in the simple selection mode.

Take a good look here:
Simple menu > Simple Navigation Commands > Selection Down
Next to each command in the sub-menu there is a keyboard shortcut displayed.

Peter
Thanks very much! Control up/down is indeed very useful across staves.
(I'll try to excuse my ignorance by saying that I used to only ever write for solo instrument on one stave, nowadays I seem to only write for ensembles)
