On the Maestro shape note font, the lines that make up the whole and half note heads seem "lightweight" in comparison to the rest of the music. I know I can change an individual note head from Maestro Regular to Maestro Bold. Is it possible to set up a template that automatically replaces all half and wholes note heads with the bold version?

There is no Bold variant of Maestro. Windows might 'fake' Bold and Italic by making strokes heavier, or slanting them, but there's no such thing.

There is Maestro Wide. Engraver also has very large noteheads. You can change the notehead font in Document Options.

The OP seems to be asking if there is a way of changing the font for just the half and whole note heads. As far as I know there is no way to do this in Finale. It's all or nothing when it comes to note heads. But perhaps someone knows a way to do this.

However, one can find or create a different note head font that has the look one desires and use that instead of Maestro or Maestro Wide.

Songbird1973,

The JW Change plugin can change the font for existing note heads - there are many options.

Filter for only whole notes and/or half notes and choose your new font. As stated earlier in this thread, there is no "bold" version of Maestro. You would need to find/install a music font that has the half note/whole note design you want.

This plugin should be applied when your document is finished, or again after any changes, as all notes entered after running the plugin will use the Finale default font as set in the Document Options dialog.
