Good evening
I am trying to find out how to write weird chords such as C6sus4 into Finale, so that the software would understand. The machine keeps telling me, that it cannot find these suffixes, no matter how I try to write it.
The trick to write C:0 brings a huge list of suffixes, but not the desired one.
Who would know a solution?

Since you do not have the desired suffix in the dialog box Chord Suffix Selection, you will have to create a new chord suffix (or to edit a duplicate copy of one of the already existing suffixes).hangtalan wrote:…The trick to write C:0 brings a huge list of suffixes, but not the desired one.

If there in this "huge list of suffixes" are some suffixes that you will never use, consider deleting those unnecessary suffixes.
Chord suffixes are document specific.
You can save your suffixes as a library that you can load into other documents.
If you prefer to have the suffixes in all your new documents, save a template containing the suffixes you need, and use that template when you create new documents.
I hope that this is clear?
If not, ask again.

And of course you are right - and I assume that there must be good reasons that composers use the more complicated functions rather than the simpler ones.at8ax wrote:Wouldn't C6sus4 just be F/C? [ducking]
No need to duck

In my experience, while there might be good reasons, there are also lots of bad reasons. Like, having no idea how chord symbols are supposed to be expressed. I can think of numerous examples in the vocal selections versions of Sondheim and Kander & Ebb songs where the editor was clueless.
