I have 2009 loaded on a Dell Inspirion 530 and been using it for several years with great success....recently been giving me problems with midi..having to reload the driver and occasionally telling me there was no driver installed...so I decided I'd move finale to my 2008 iMac...figuring that if the mac was 2008, then the 2009 finale should load...it won't...is it because the os now used is differnt that the ox used when the finale engineers wrote all the code for macintosh?

What OS are you running on the iMac?

From the Knowledge Base:

Finale 2009 for Macintosh®

Make sure that you have the Finale 2009c update in place.

G4 or higher recommended. OS 10.4 or 10.5 (Mac-Intel or Power PC)
DVD-ROM drive (for installation)
800x600 minimum monitor resolution
Minimum 512MB RAM (1GB or more recommended for optional use of Garritan sounds/Aria Player: more RAM = more available sounds)
512MB hard drive space required for software and user manual. An additional 2GB hard drive space is required for all VST/AU sounds included with Finale 2009

this is what I have

Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac8,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
Boot ROM Version: IM81.00C1.B00
SMC Version (system): 1.30f1
Serial Number (system): W88401PZZE4
Hardware UUID: BBD2A4FE-1D85-5871-B568-7F38BC0E9702

running os 10.8.4

cannot have the 2009 update in place, since I can't load 2009...

the problem is getting 2009 to load on this computer.....

MM won't even talk about it...they call it a legacy...and don't support it in any way...

If I could get 2009 on this iMac...it would solve alot of my problems...

I believe that the problem is that you are running 10.8, which will not run the PowerPC apps. The last OS which contained Rosetta was 10.7.

According to a quick google, you might be able to install 10.7 or earlier on a separate partition, and run your older Fianle that way.

I have 10.8.4 and Finale 2009 works fine on my Mac (Intel processor).
Make sure you run the installer (Mac version) on the installation DVD.
