Using Finale 2012 I am having trouble turning off swing feel in my document. I have Human Playback selected to "None" and I even tried "Latin" but the eighth notes still swing. The manual says to click a button on the playback controls that doesn't exist.
Any ideas?

Swing playback can be caused by an expression with playback effect "Swing".
Are there any expressions in the score?
Try deleting expressions.
Swing playback can be caused by Tempo Tool edits (Tempo Changes).
Try this:
Selection Tool.
Select All.
Edit menu > Clear Selected Items…
In the dialog box Clear Selected Items, de-select everything except "Tempo Changes".

There are no expressions in the score and I tried clearing the tempo changes but it still is swinging eighth notes.
Any other ideas?

Are you using Windows Finale or Mac Finale?cressmanmusic wrote:…The manual says to click a button on the playback controls that doesn't exist…
In the Mac version you can expand the Playback Controls window by clicking on a small triangle.
I am not sure about the Windows version, but I think that you should click on a speaker icon to expand the Playback Controls window.
When the window is expanded, there is a text box control field where you can set an amount of swing playback for the entire piece.
By setting the value to 0 (zero) you get playback without swing.

I have followed all the advice given here and can't turn off swing playback.
Originally I did the piece using a jazz leadsheet template. Maybe there's something there that I can't see?
I've cleared tempo changes and expressions (there were none), and playback style is set to "None" and O swing percentage... still, the eighth notes are swinging

To find the culprit I think that we need to see an actual Finale document.
I suggest that you attach a (small) Finale sample document here, for the gurus to examine.
This forum does not accept attachments with the Finale file name extension.
Before you can attach a Finale document in this forum, you must compress it, e. g. as a .zip file.
And the file size must not be more than max. 100 KB.

I just tried a solution that works despite it's complicated appearance. To produce an excerpt with straight 8ths in an otherwise swing piece, use the Tuplet tool. Indicate that you would like 6 sixteenths in the time of 4 sixteenths, then tie groups of three of them together.

What is your Tempo marking? Is it possible that swing is turned on there?
Double click the Tempo > Edit > Playback > Type > Swing > Value?
Bill
Double click the Tempo > Edit > Playback > Type > Swing > Value?
