Hi! I'm writing a new piece for Piano and Baritone, and I just cannot wrap my head around how I would create a Db Harmonic Minor scale. The Key Signature box is just impossible to me.
Basically what I want is [C Bbb Ab Gb Fb Eb Db]. How would I create this in Finale?

I am not sure I understand.

Take a look at the attached Finale 2012 document.
Is that what you mean?

In my example I have notated the harmonic minor scale in the traditional way where the raised step 7 (= C♮) is achieved via a note accidental.
Is that what you have in mind?

Or would you prefer to have the ♮ as a key signature accidental (instead of as a note accidental)?

I can't open that file, as I'm on a Windows computer, but I understand what you mean. Yes I want it as a key signature accidental, instead of having to write the accidentals every time. It just looks better to have it in the key signature.

As I stated I want A G F E D to be flat and B to be double-flat.

Oh, yes you can!
The file is zipped.
All you have to do, is to un-zip it, e. g. with WinZip.
When you have un-zipped the file, you can open it with Finale 2012.

Take a look at the attached Finale 2012 document.
Remember: You must un-zip the file first.

I think that this key signature is what you want.

Yes, I know how a zipped file works, and how to unzip it. that's not the problem. My Finale is telling me the files you send me are invalid.

Trying to load a newer file into an older version will give that message.

You said that you have 2012, but are you sure?

Have you tried opening Finale first, and then opening the file from within the program?

Ravn Hansen,

Try this Finale document instead.
It is in 2008 format.

Yes I am using Finale2012, but I figured out what I was doing wrong, it worked better when I didn't unzip the file at all. It wouldn't convert it after I zipped it, but opening the zipfile let Finale convert it. Thank you so much!

Is there a way to save this now? Because when I try to do the same thing it wants to make the C a Cb.

1) To turn the C♭ into a C you need an extra step:

From the dialog box "Nonstandard Key Signature", click the button "Acc. Order".
You get to the dialog box "Accidental Order and Amount".

Click the button "Prev" 6 times to get to Unit -6 (= the 6th "flat accidental" in the key signature).
Change its Amount to 0 (zero).

2) However, you can also open my document, and save a Library with the document's Key Signatures.
You can load that Library into your own documents.

To save a Library: File menu > Save Library…

To load a Library: File menu > Load Library…
