Hello all,

I am in the process of editing a multiple percussion solo, most of which exists on a group of two percussion staves, and I cannot get two lines worth of empty staff to hide, even though I have hidden that staff on many other lines in the movement.

1. I have already made sure nothing exists in the measures, including "clear all items."

2. I have made sure all the settings, such as "Hide staves normally" are selected.

3. I have tried highlighting the entire movement and choosing "Show empty staves" to "reset" it, but then none of the staves will disappear, including ones that are currently hidden.

I am using Finale 2012 on OS X Yosemite, which I understand is imcompatible, but the program is still mainly usable other than Human Playback. I have attached a copy of the document if anyone would like it. Mm. 88-97 are the issue.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

The staves in question exist from mm. 88-97.

Welcome to the forum!

I can not explain why you could not hide the empty staves.
When I selected the two empty staves, and ran the command
Staff menu > Hide Empty Staves
then the staves became hidden - as you can see in the attached document.

Hi Peter and Marco,

There may be a bug here. When I tried hiding the staves by highlighting the handles and using the contextual menu to hide empty staves, nothing happened. But if I went to the Staff menu and did it from there it did work properly.

Thank you both so much for your help.

I tried what David did (using the Staff menu at the top instead of the contextual menu) and it did, in fact, work just fine! It seems like it is just some sort of bug, which makes sense considering this version of Finale is incompatible with my OS.

I sometimes have the same problem hiding staves. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. There are multiple inconsistencies since Finale is no longer compatible with Mac. Can anyone suggest another way to hiding staves? I'm using 2014.5 on High Sierra 10.13.6.

Make sure the staves you want to hide have no "real" (as opposed to the normal default) whole rests.

Whole rests no longer matter (not since "optimize" was replaced with "hide empty staves").
