alternate root

is there a way to alter the default setting on the alternate root? I write a lot of stuff and the chord ends up not having the root as the bottom note, so finale always assigns it as the /(note)…for example Em7/G….which results in my going in, on every chord, and unselecting alt root….

can I "unselect" alt root as the default?

What are you trying to achieve?
How are you trying to do it?
What happens when you do that?
What doesn't happen that you expect to happen?

How are you entering the chord symbols?
- via “Type Into Score” with the computer keyboard?
- via an imported MusicXML file?
- or?

sorry for the confusion…

I'm using the 2 staff analysis chord to annote the chord associated with a bunch of notes…

say bass clef has a note on the first beat of a measure…building a chord…

and the Treble clef has the following notes on the first beat as part of the chord…

C and D and E…

if I allow finale to display the chord it will display… Em7(#5)/G

then I have to edit the chord and deselect the (alt root) box…

I will probably never use the /anything….would rather not have to type the chord in by hand…if Finale would allow me to turn off and on the alt root business it would be a lot better for me…maybe the next upgrade…

If I understand you correctly, Finale is notating
Em7(#5)/G
and you prefer
Em7(#5)
(without the /G),
right?

What I would do:
After all the chord symbols are entered, select all via the Selection Tool, and run
Utilities menu > Change > Chords…
