I am trying to put a lead sheet together and need to input a triplet which is made up by combining 3 triplets. I can easily build a triplet using multi values, but I cannot find how to accomplish multi-triplets into one triplet in the manual.

Please see the attached example.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Jon

Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately your attached example does not display for me.

Could you tell me in words how the tuplet is supposed to be?

I mean, how many notes in the space of how much?

Jon,
it's not as complicated as ist seems...

2 ways for your example (your "big" triplet is 3 8th:2 8th)
- Speedy entry: Enter "Ctrl+3" (for a triple) and 4 (!) for an 8th note to define the big triplet - "Ctrl+3" and 3 times "2" for the first 32nd triplet - go back to the 8th note and change it to a 16th - go forward to the position after the 32th triplet - enter your next 16th - "Ctrl+3" and 3 times "2" for the second 32nd triplet - next 16th - "Ctrl+3" and 3 times "2" for the last 32nd triplet - done.

- Enter 16th - 32nd tripet three times - change to the triplet tool and click to the first 16th - enter the settings for an 8th note triplet.

Hope this is clear, excuse my English...

Peter Thompson:
I'm sorry the display didn't work for you.
What I have is 3 identical triplets composed of 3ea 32nd notes and 1ea 16th note.
They are then combined to make 1 triplet.

I noticed that you go back to '96 with Finale. I go back to the original issue when the Mac computer had just come out.
Anyway, I have primarily used Finale for writing lead sheets and have done several thousand, but have never run across this notation before. But, I only got into Django Reinhardt in the last 2 or 3 years! Gypsy Jazz is something else!

Thanks for your reply.
I will attempt to accomplish this procedure later today and will let you know how it goes.
Thanks again,
Jon

I viewed the thread in another web browser, and now jon3673’s attached example displayed for me.

This is what I see:

Unfortunately the notation is not clear from the example, since the time signature is not displayed in jon3673’s example.

I repeat my question regarding the nested tuplet:
The tuplet should fit in the space of how much?
- a quarter? (time signature 4/4)
- a half? (time signature 5/4)

See the attached image.
Should the nested tuplet sound like A (= 4/4) or like B (= 5/4)?
