Hi,

this is my first post on this board after MM shut down the forum. Thanks for provoiding this platform!

Now my question: Is there a simple way to change the size of the slashes in staff style "slash notation"? I could not find a setting for this.

Of course I could do it with a work-around (see picture), but this is too complicated.

Any idea? Thanks,

Joerg

You can set Document Options / Fonts / Notation / Alternate Notation to a smaller point size. I'm not sure what else that would affect, thougj.

Hi Motet,

life can be easy... Thank you so much !

In case anyone else needs to do this: Document options -> Alternate Notation -> Music characters -> large slash -> select... small slash (No.243).

Under "define staff style" -> appearance -> staff -> other you can change stem reversal from -4 to -2 if you want to have the small slashes in the middle of your staff lines.

I tried that but it only seemed to affect rhythmic notation, not slash notation.

It works for me.

However, the small slashes are perhaps a bad idea since they make the Slash Notation look more like Rhythmic Notation.

P.S. : the "workaround" you describe can be defined a a sequence of actions (at least the last 2 steps) in the plug-in JW Change (not on v.25 Mac yet, but 2014.5) -> Sequence editor.
Notehead -> Shape -> Small slash, Stems -> Visibility -> Hide. Of course you have to start entering notes (middle B, quarter notes).

I see now--you make "large slash" be a small slash. I was instead just picking Music characters -> Small Slash, but that's just a dialog for changing characters.

I prefer character 213 from the jazz font for my slash charts - smaller, cleaner, and takes up less space. I set it in document options, alternate notation. Give it a try!

But the advantage is that the chord symbols are "popping out", because there is not so much distracting black colour on the sheet. So maybe in the end it is a matter of personal taste (and since I use this notation for Jazz, no engraving rules at all apply! )

On my Mac I do not know how to change the font in that dialogue from Broadway Copyist to Jazz, no option indicated

I, too, use the Jazz font for slashes in Broadway Copyist documents.

It's easy:

Go to Document Options>Fonts
Select the Notation pop-up menu
Select Alternate Notation
Click Set Font
Choose Jazz

Note: all your document alternate notation will be in the Jazz font. But this really only applies to 1 and 2 measure repeat symbols and rhythmic notation (which I think is similar to Broadway Copyist).

Thanks - it works!

BUT: Why in the world does MM scatter these options all over the menues? When I select Document Options > Alternate Notation I personally would expect an option to select a different font at this place - why different shapes only? At least they could have doubled the option (Fonts AND Alterenate Notation).
