Regarding simple entry of dotted notes, if there any way to have the dot be cancelled when changing base note values while in simple entry. Or, when changing from notes to rests.

For example, when entering dotted quarter and then eighth notes repetitively, it is a lot more time consuming to have to constantly add and remove that dot over and over.

I prefer simple entry and can do it fairly quickly but this slows me down. Perhaps I am overlooking something.

How are you entering the notes?

If you are entering from the QWERTY keyboard and numberpad, all you have to do is tap the . (period) key to dot the last note entered. You don't have to dismiss it, just move on.

I have a feeling horn_guy is using mouse entry. If you want to reduce time, don't use the mouse at all (there are keyboard alternatives), but if you must, as Mike says add the dot with the keyboard rather than selecting it from the palette and it won't stick on.

Hello, yes I am usually doing this mouse-only. I could always resort to the modifier keys and that is what they are for I guess.

I would give a lot for a selection that would allow cancelling the dot if you changed the note value, or changed to a rest.

Thanks for your input.

If you double-click on the new note value or rest, that will uncheck the dot.

If you learn how to use the QWERTY+numpad method of note entry, you will probably triple your input speed! The mouse is about the slowest way to do it.

You can do it with a laptop or a Mac without a number pad, but a USB pad is inexpensive, and well worth it.

If you are consistently entering dotted rhythms, then take a look at Jari's Rhythm & Meter plug-in. This has an option for dotting notes of a certain duration, so you can enter them all as eighth notes, and then get the "inegale" feel afterwards.

But more importantly, never use the mouse for Simple Entry.
