Changing note to rest does not remove staccato v25.4 Mac
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
Hello, I had a question about proper behavior when replacing a note with a rest and the note has a staccato marking as shown here:
After changing the note to a rest the staccato is still present.
Turning on the articulation tool shows the selection box (just visible) so the marking is valid.
My question is whether it is expected to remove articulations separately when changing notes to rests. Is there a selection to toggle this behavior somewhere that I am missing? I would have thought this marking should go away when the note goes away.
Thanks.

This has been the behavior in Finale for many versions back, probably since the beginning. Not sure that there is a solution.

If you have the JW Change plug-in, then you can delete all articulations from rests.
I've included "Not Fermata" to the settings, as that's one kind of articulation you would want on a rest. Finale is dumb to each kind of articulation -- they are all just symbols with no meaning.
JW Change (and many other plug-ins) are available here:

If you use the JW Change plugin to convert the note to a rest, the staccato dot does not remain.

After making the selection in the first picture, I pressed Backspace and the result is the second.

Ah. I selected the note only. You selected the whole beat. Just selecting the note doesn't do it. Selecting the entire beat does.

With JW Change, you can select a half beat and it changes the note to a rest. If you select a half beat with the selection tool, it replaces a quarter note with an eighth rest and eighth note. So there's a difference.
