In smart shapes, my cursor has abruptly turned in to what looks like a plus sign with SOMETHING in the upper right quadrant--it's too small to see what it is supposed to look like. Nothing I do will make it change back to a normal cursor.
In trying to get it to return to normal, I clicked somewhere, and it added a huge slur across every single system in the piece. I clicked elsewhere later, and it added an unwanted slur, not particularly near where I clicked.
I have quit and restarted Finale, but that did not help.
Help, please! I can't do anything at all with it like this.
Thanks,
Mark

Sounds like a variation of the "Virtual Stuck Key" syndrome. Shut down the computer and restart.

N.'s solution should work. You can also log out and log back in to your user account. It's a little faster, so I generally do that, first.

Thanks! Yes, restarting the computer did the trick. In the meantime, a few slurs mysteriously disappeared, but I think I got them all back.

I have this all the time, and found out that I have to click three times on subtools in Smart Shape and Special Tools. Here's an earlier post on that:

Well, damn! It's a year and a half since I posted this, and now I have a brand-new computer, and it's happening again. Instead of a cursor, I get a plus sign with a tiny eighth note in the upper right quadrant. I used Finale all day long without this happening, but very late in the day, the weird cursor appeared.
I followed the advice given to me before, which evidently worked in August of 2017: I restarted the computer and relaunched Finale. I was feeling quite hopeful that I'd get my normal cursor back. No such luck.
Any suggestions now?
Thanks,
Mark

You probably know that pressing the escape key is a shortcut for the Selection Tool, the bold arrow cursor. Does that work? Does it work if you click the Selection Tool directly on the Tool Palette? Try switching back and forth among 3 or 4 different tools to see if that clears things.
Fairly often, I too get the wrong cursor for a particular tool but this wrong cursor seems to work for editing with the particular tool, and soon things clear themselves up. Why don't you post a 1 page Finale file that shows the problem so folks can play around with it.
