Hi,
I am trying to finish an arrangement, and am having a problem understanding how to create grace note groups that go between staves, and that are lined up correctly in the measure. I have researched the net and found past posts that got me using the Note Mover tool's cross-staff function, the special tools Beam Angle and Stem Direction tools, and TG tools cross staff plug-in. I have gotten close to my goal, but am having problems of the grace note groups sliding to one side or the other of the measure as I delete or hide the rests that Finale puts in. I am attaching 2 jpgs, one of the goal layout, and the monster I have created at the moment. Any help would be much appreciated! I am using an old but totally functional for my needs Finale2008, on a Windows laptop.
Thanks a lot!
Peter

Since you want them over the tremolo, I would forget about grace notes and rather put them in another layer as regular notes (9 sixteenths in the space of a half note and 10 sixteenths in the space of a half note), then reduce the note size. Looks like you're already using layers. The easiest way to do cross-staff is to write them all on one staff, then select the ones you want to move to the other staff and press Alt-up or -down as appropriate (these are shortcuts to the cross-staff plug-in). This will save some steps over using the note mover. I think all this should work with Finale 2008.

This wasn't too hard. I entered the tuplets on the top staff in layer 2. I did use a plug-in probably not available in 2008 to resize the notes en masse (before moving cross staff). You may or may not have to do them one at a time without it; someone else will know.

This sounds very sensible! However, when I try creating the 2 unequal groups of 16ths, I can get the "9 16ths in the space of 1 half" group, but when I try to do that for the group of 10, in the other 2 beats of the bar, I can put in 9 16ths, and see a dotted 32nd rest left over, but it won't let me add a 10th 16th. Am I missing something?
Thanks again, really appreciate the help!

If you are using Speedy entry, type Ctrl-1 to set up the tuplet, then enter the notes. If you are using Simple entry, enter the first 16th, then type Alt-9 to set up the tuplet (you can use "10 of current duration in the space of 8 of current duration").

I found how to change the note size of passage without a plug-in. Select the passage, then Utilities/Change/Note size. I used 75% above. (You would think the resize tool would do this, but I guess not.)
