Quick recognition of suggested edits
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
I share Finale files with a colleague, and we both suggest edits for each other's approval. Is there a way to enter my suggested edits in a different color so that my colleague will be able to see immediately what changes are being suggested? Thanks!

I haven't found a good solution from within Finale, but it could be done using a PDF copy. The example was done in the free Foxit reader.
After opening the PDF of the Finale file, I used Comment > Area Highlight to draw attention to the edit. Then I used the Typewriter to enter a text note explaining the change.
I could not upload a PDF, a jpg or a docx file. So, I put a screen shot of the PDF into the Finale file and uploaded the Finale file. I hope you can open this version.

You could select the suggested edits and move that section (seems to work only with whole measures, though) to another layer (Edit or Right-click > Move/Copy Layers) which will then show in another color (which you can adjust to your liking in Edit > Preferences > Display Colors). You can then also add a description or comment with the Text tool to identify or explain your suggested edit.
P.S.: Question to others - I've never actually noticed this before, that a layer can only be moved by whole measures - any way to do this with selecting a specific sequence of notes, and not a whole measure?)

I have asked MM to include a 'highlighter' for just such times. It would be nice for us teachers, too. So far, no-go from MM !

Thanks for all your suggestions. Seems like entering my edits in a different layer and changing the color for that layer is the best solution at this point. It would be great if MM adds the ability to highlight and add sticky notes to the next version.

I mentioned my techniques in the thread suggesting MM should add sticky notes or highlights, but worth mentioning here as well.
Finale has bookmarks, which can have names to help identify the items specifically. When one does the edits, these can remain or be removed, and new ones added. If the bookmarks remain, one can put a date or reference number or initials to help document who did the edit and when. Could be quite useful.
Also, I create a Smart Shape called Edit, or something similar, with an extendable line ending in a hook to help visually locate any edit.

You can also add a sticky note as a text block.
To make the text block “stick” to a specific measure/staff, use a measure/staff attached text block (hint: enter the text block from Scroll View).

I suppose those things will work per say but the are not true sticky notes. I would want different colors also. But I am not the one that asked for them so maybe they will suffice for him. It is amazing that Finale has so many ways to do things if you just put some thought in it.
