Piano/vocal piece created in F2011, opened in F25.4 (2011 is not installed on my current machine). Edited the vocal line to hold some notes a couple of measures longer, but the Word Extensions didn't extend automatically. The two places I need to do this extend over system breaks; when I went into Scroll view and adjusted the extensions manually, the change did not convert properly back to Page view. Tried turning Smart Word Extensions off and on again, no change. Tried rearranging measure layout in Page view to put them on one line, then adjust manually and change layout back, but again, it didn't stick.

Sadly, the old Word Extensions plug-in is 32-bit and doesn't work in F25. Anybody have any other ideas? Thanks.

If that doesn't fix it, maybe post a small sample file that displays the behavior for us to troubleshoot.

Glad to know about that Utilities option that I never noticed, but it had no effect (variables: whole document, selecting specific measures, removing the manually altered extensions and letting the utility do it from scratch, but it didn't). Copied the section into the attached. What might look like Word Extensions in measures 15 and 22-23 are just Smart Shape lines.

I'm guessing this revised file behaves as you would want. For some reason, a couple of the measures had the option checked to break smart word extensions.

Ah! (That sound you hear is me slapping my forehead with both hands. While I type with my nose. I'm an idiot.) Thanks!

Finally got a minute to repair the damage. Unchecked the Break Word Extensions in those measures, and then tried to use the Update tool under Utilities, but nothing happened (with or without highlighting the measures). Instead, I went into Document Options, turned Smart W.E. off and on again (apply, apply), and *that* worked. Further research (the manual) shows that Edit/Preferences/View has a setting to update hyphens/extensions either automatically or manually, and the Utilities/Update tool works only if that's set to "manually." Okay, great, but with that set to "automatically," when I fixed the Measure Options, the extensions did *not* update automatically. Is that because I had, in the interim, adjusted them manually? Does that remove them from automatic adjustment? If so, is there some easier way to restore automatic than the off/on method I accidentally found?

The easy way is to have the option chosen to edit word extensions in the lyric menu, then select the extension handle and press Backspace. That's how I did it.

Noting this counterintuitive method for the next time (my first instinct about backspace is to remove a thing, not to remove an adjustment to a thing). Thanks.

Okay. You can also right click on the handle and choose Remove Manual Adjustments.
