Beam over Barline Problem

I have a scenario in 5/8 where I want to extend a beam across the barline to a tied note in the second measure. I'm using the out of the box plug-in to do this and it works insofar as the beaming goes. However, the tie moves into an incorrect position. This is rendered incorrectly both in finale and when printing (see attached images).
Any thoughts/help greatly appreciated.

The plug-in creates an extra note in the first measure (the high C) so that it can beam to it, and hides the first note in the second measure, which is why what you're doing doesn't work. But use the tie tool to manipulate the tie and it will look OK if not play back correctly. Here I just turned the tie backwards by dragging the left handle. Since the high C is in the first measure, click there to display the handles.

Another technique is to temporarily split the system between the two bars. The plug-in uses a different technique in this situation. That should leave your tie alone. When you unsplit the system, though, you'll have to line up the beams with special tools unless you make them completely horizontal.

Yet another solution would be to replace the tie with a smart shape slur.

I have Finale 26 on a Mac with MacOS 10.14.3 (Mojave). In a score I am working on I have an eighth note at the end of one measure and five eighths in the next, all of which I want to beam together.
Using the Patterson Lite plug-in included with Finale, I found that if I selected all those notes and beamed them together, it became impossible to position dynamics correctly, and equally impossible to remove redundant accidentals (e.g. with repeated notes).
I resolved these problems by first beaming the notes in the second measure together within Finale, and then selecting the note at the end of the first measure and only the first note in the second before applying the Patterson plug-in. But other problems remain. The notes acquired and retained tails in addition to the beam (though the tails do not print), they are greyed out and they do not play back.
Surely there must be a straightforward way of beaming across barlines (a quite common requirement, after all) in Finale without these detriments? But what is it? I tried the invaluable free JW plug-ins, but could not find an appropriate one for this task. Can anyone help, please?

I realized that there was a very simple solution to the problem shortly after posting my previous post!
1. I entered all the notes, and beamed the notes in the second measure together in the usual Finale way by selecting notes and typing /.
2. In the special tools palette, I used the custom-stem tool to replace the tailed stem of the note at the end of the first measure by a plain vertical line.
3. I used the tools in the special tools palette to extend the beam in the second measure backwards to touch the modified stem of the note at the end of the first measure, to adjust the angle of the beam and to adjust the stem-length of the note at the end of the first measure.
This may not be an elegant, hi-tech solution, but it works, with care it looks right and it plays back correctly.

Finale can't beam over the barline, so the plug-in fakes it with hidden notes and other tricks. The gray tails are hidden notes. You must have Finale set to show hidden notes. You can turn that off, since it's usually not desirable to see them anyway (View/Show/...).
If you place your dynamics and get rid of your unwanted accidentals first, the plug-in will do the right thing selecting all the notes. (Finale should not be showing accidentals on repeated notes, so you must have done something untoward.) Generally, you should create beams over the barline very late in the game, since they are handled differently at system breaks.

I suggest that you try it:
First arrange the layout so the the first measure is at the end of one system, and the second measure is at the beginning of the next system.
Then, run the plug-in.
With this trick you get one (forward) extendable beam at the end of the first measure, and another (backward) extendable beam at the beginning of the second measure.
When you have run the plug-in, you can re-arrange the measure layout as needed.
After re-arranging the layout you may have to adjust the beaming with the Special Tools Tool (probably with the sub-tool
Beam Extension Tool).
