Finale not responding to keystroke or mouse note input

When I shift+click to place the caret and begin entering notes, the noe blinks as I press a key or click the mouse, but vanishes when I release it. Can't get anything to input.
This happened suddenly when I turned on the computer this morning. The only action I'd taken the night before was to extract all the parts from the same score. Today I wanted to add some things.

Also, I just realized that there is no audio when I playback the score. But, there is audio when I play back individual parts from the score that were extracted.

The first thing to try is to restart the computer.

I have restarted it several times. I get a note on the measure, ready to be entered. When I place the caret over it and click or press a letter key , the note disappearsç when I release it reappears. After I do this using a letter on the keypad, there is an error message saying that Finale needs to shut down. But first it asks me if I should save some copies. If I click save I am warned I must name said files individually.

You say that you have version 15 of Finale, which is not a legitimate version. Is this version 25? I can suggest several possible solutions, but I would start with the easiest: Recreate the preferences.

Otherwise, I would agree with Zuill, about recreating your preferences.

Its last year's version, 2017. In preferences, I don't see anything about this problem. Should I click "reset all preferences"? Could it be an issue with the settings in my laptop keyboard settings?

You are using Finale 25. Not 15, no 17...

Ues, reset the preferences. Often, they get corrupted, with all kinds of bad things happening. Also, make sure you are using the Laptop Shortcut setting.

So, everything works fine - note entry and playback when I am in individual parts that I extracted yesterday. But, I can't do anything with the score.

Yes. And everything works fine. All my other scores, etc. Just not this one score I'm still working on that I extracted from.

In fact, prior to a certain bar, I can enter notes. I can enter tempo markings anywhere; but at a certain measure where I left off, no note entry.

Is there a way to unextract all the parts and restore where I was before this happened. What puzzles me is that this only is happening in this particular score.

I tried to upload it here but it's too big.
If I pass the mouse on a measure, I get a grey note.
If I L click the measure, the note disappears and a cursor appears.
If I release the L mouse click, the grey note reappears.
If I R click over a measure, a grey note appears with a vertical, red line through it.
If I then press letter names of notes, that note w red line advances through the measure to the correct line or space, but will not enter.

If you right-click on the file in the Dropbox folder on Windows, there's a choice "Copy Dropbox link." Then you can paste that link here. After someone's taken a look and hopefully found the problem, remove it from Dropbox.

I don't get the "Copy Dropbox link." option. Just "back, Reload, Save, and cast." I can't open it in Dropbox myself.
The main thing is, with the mouse, as I pass over a measure, there is a grey note that follows the mouse. When I L click, the note disappears and changes to a caret. When I let go of the mouse button, the grey note returns, but nothing is entered in to the score.

On the other hand, if I use the keyboard to enter the note - the note sounds as I press the letter key, and a vertical red line appears through the grey note. It does note enter in to the score, however. When I repeatedly press a letter, the note will move through the measure according to the note value (8 times/measure as an 8th note).

This all seems to have happened right after I selected "extract parts", and affects none of my other files.

I'm talking about the Dropbox folder in Windows, not when you log in to dropbox.com. Drag your Finale file into that Windows folder, then right-click on it and pick "Copy Dropbox link."

This will probably remain a mystery.

If there is a problem entering notes in measures, I'm guessing maybe there is a staff style hiding the notes. Try removing the staff style first.
