dark squares are hiding tab numbers. Am using win8.1 with finale 2014.5.
I messed around with changing colors on my monitor display which I feel could be the problem.
Is there a way to set that to a default?
Can I fix the problem in the Finale program?

I have no dark squares hiding TAB numbers. It might be something in your preferences regarding handles, maybe.

I went to the preferences menu to see if I could restore back to a "restore defaults" to eliminate the black squares. Finale showed a picture of the preferences which had a place to click return to defaults on the bottom of the menu just right of the "help" button. The weird thing is that the defaults button wasn't on my program like it was on their help picture.

I believe the Reset Preferences button was a new addition in Finale 25.

Would there be a way to reset in win2014.5?

Avast got rid of the black squares for me (not sure how) but exploded the file folder that had many many finale files in them. I found a lot of folders scattered over my computer. Not sure how to open my 2006 files with my 2014.5 and save them as 2014.5 files. Can this be done in a group save or do they have to be saved individually?
Thanks to all of you that have helped me so far. It is surely appreciated.

If by Avast you mean the Antivirus program, I'm not sure why you needed to go that route, unless you had a virus. Not sure what you mean by exploding a folder.

Sounds like your system is a mess. I hope you get things worked out.

Yes Zuill, my computer was (is) a mess. Avast is an antivirus program but they also repair the computer. However, they were trying to delete the squares in the tab notation I spoke of earlier. In the process, they deleted a file folder which I named NOTATIONS (all capital letters) which have a lot of finale files. The odd thing is: the folder is missing but I'm finding almost all of the files that are scattered all over my computer.
Most of my repair is near done. Trying to figure a way to save my finale songs to pdf files globally and not have to do one at a time. Is that possible or do I have to do each one at a time?
Thanks for all your help and concern.
