If there is one thing that I cannot wrap my head around, it's updating the layout.
I have page two the way I want it. How do I get pp 3ff to match it?

Are we talking about after the fact, or to determine how new pages will be created? If the former, it might be that the system size is different. If so, in the resize tool, right click on the first system, and then choose to apply from that system to the last (through end of piece is the option)

Zuill's suggestion will I suspect change the size of the staves themselves.
If you want to keep the smaller stave size, but space them more widely, then in the Staff Tool select all except the top staves in the subsequent systems then try this. Staff menu > Respace Staves enter an appropriate figure for Space Above Each Selected Staff > Scale To % (rather more than 100% but you have to experiment a little to find the appropriate figure - maybe try 140% first).

If you have the full version of TG Tools, try Layout > Copy Staff System Optimization.

I was hard to tell much from the picture, so I was thinking the systems were compressed on the next page. if it is staff spacing, then the approach would be different. I suppose we should see a file, rather than guess.

I'll remove the notes, and post the first few pages.
Yes, I would like the staves on following pages to take on the same spacing. Since it's a single system per page, nothing hidden, I played with the spacing between staves percentage until I had them fitting properly. I could just go through it page by page, applying the same percentage, but I assume there is an easier way. Then, if I reduce the numbers of measures per page, I would like subsequent pages to continue the same way.
My next question would be to make each staff a little larger, reducing the space between them, but keeping the top and bottom at the same spots.
I've looked over other posts describing "change one item, change it back, yada yada," but even after all these years, I don't understand why this should be so complicated.

If it's a simple matter of respacing staves, that's different than page layout. For this, it would be to use the Staff Tool. On the page where the spacing is as you want it, check to see if the spacing is even. If so, notice the spacing amount. Click on the staff handle and it tells the distance from the previous staff. Now, if you highlight the next page through the end of the score, and select Respace Staves from the Staff Tool menu, then enter that amount into the slot for that value. That should be all that you need.

N's suggestion of using the TG Tools Copy Staff System Optimization is also an excellent one and one which should help you in cases like these. I often use it to copy the layout (including staff spacing) from one page to a number of others.
