Hi all,
Sorry for the OT again! If I may ask...
I have 4 bars of MM crotchet = 60, then subito MM crotchet = 120.
Should I (or should I not) add the expression that says crotchet = quaver (centred over the change barline).
Thanks for the indulgence.
Cheers,
HP.

There are actually two schools of thought as to whether it should be written crotchet = quaver or quaver = crotchet, but I think the latter is more accepted, since each note goes over its respective measure; so (old) quaver = (new) crotchet. But my opinion is that in this case it might be overkill--with crotchet = 60 and then crotchet = 120 is pretty clear that the speed simply doubles.

Hi Motet, I agree with you, I think it's overkill, so I have got rid of them.
Cheers and thanks,

I think the rule is that lined up horizontally with the first notation (whether it be time signatures, accidentals or notes) in the bar of the change then it should be new = old. On the other hand, if the = is over the barline, then it should be old = new. Alternatively small arrows can be used to clarify back arrow old = new forward arrow however it is placed horizontally.motet wrote:There are actually two schools of thought as to whether it should be written crotchet = quaver or quaver = crotchet, but I think the latter is more accepted, since each note goes over its respective measure; so (old) quaver = (new) crotchet.
Agreed.motet wrote:But my opinion is that in this case it might be overkill--with crotchet = 60 and then crotchet = 120 is pretty clear that the speed simply doubles.
