I am trying to create a piece with no time signature. I have gone to Measure Tool, double-clicked into the measure to bring up the Measure Attributes Window. In the lower left corner of the window I chose Time Signature Always Hide. The time signature disappears, but I am still prevented from writing breves; it will only accept semi-breves, which tells me it is still in a meter. How do I write a piece with no time signature?
I am using Windows, and have temporarily downloaded (30 days) a trial version of Finale (Make Music, I think it is called).

You can hide the time signature.
Or you can make Finale display another time signature than the “real” time signature (example: Pickup Measure).
But you can not create a measure without a “real” time signature.
For a {without time signature} layout, you can let each system be one measure (with a big time signature).
Display without barlines (use the Staff Tool or the Measure Tool, depending on the actual context).
A special problem arises if you need a note value across a system break.
Let me know if you need a solution for {note value across system break}.
