When I charting drums, I can barely hear playback. I'm seeing in the percussion midi values that they're all around 36 to 47.

I clicked on the Midi tool, select all, key velocities, set to (100) and nothing changed.

How do I change the note on velocities to my percussion/drum charts. Also, how do I set the default value of each note input to a specific value?

thanks

It sounds like you are confusing the MIDI note assignments with the Velocity Data. The numbers 36 to 47 sound like the MIDI values assigned to the different percussion instruments in the Map/Layout. Normally, the velocity is set to 64 in the default file. That can be changed for all instruments in playback settings (the base value). However, you may not want all instruments to be affected. You can highlight the staff with the MIDI tool and change them all to any value easily once the notes are entered.

correct. I was confusing the two.

Is there anyway to tell Finale to set Velocities upon note entry? When I'm making charts, it would just be easier to be able to have the drums be audible upon playback rather than having to select all notes and then change their velocity value.

thanks!

Yes. In Playback Settings, change Base Key Velocity to whatever you want. Default is 64. Try 127, which is the max.
