Tied note after one-measure repeat sign
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
I have a question regarding tied notes across measure lines and how they behave after a measure with a staff style (specifically, a one-measure repeat sign). Even if I leave the notes under the staff style, the first note of the next measure is no longer tied (unless the measure starts a new system - then all is fine).
I get around this by actually drawing a tie with the Smart Shape tool - however, I am curious if there is a better solution. I have gone into the 'edit measure' box and seen that 'End Tie" is indeed marked, so this apparently is not a solution. Thanks for any and all constructive criticism.

I don't know if there is a better workaround, but you could do the following:
As the tie end is shown if the previous measure is the last measure of a repeat bracket, add a backward repeat bracket and an ending bracket to the previous measure, then set the staff style (one-bar, etc.) to hide the repeat symbol ("Hide Repeat Bars") and hide the ending bracket manually. Any better solutions?

Both useful comments - I'll try them. Regarding the second suggestion: if the first note is tied to the second, then it will be impossible to create a second tie to convert. Am I correct about this?

You can have multiple ties starting from a note, but you might have to use the normal Smart Line tool to create them. The reason I suggested making the tie with the entry tool is that with the Smart Line tool, if you don't have something to tie it to, it seems to make an uneditable tie. Typical of Finale, it's buggy and some ties seem to be uneditable or flip in a flaky way sometimes. But experiment and I'm sure you can get something to work, perhaps having to resort to changing a rest to a note just long enough to make the tie.
