I created a new score.
When I rewrote the names of the staves original numbers don't disappear.
E.g. Staff 1. I wrote 2 Horns in E, but the number 1 that follows remains.
I appreciate your always valuable help

In the Scoremanager, for that instrument, uncheck the Auto-Number box.
