When I place a glissando attaching from the last note of a measure to the first note of the following measure and update the layout or do a redraw it disappears. Not if it's within the same measure. Anyone know the cure for that?
Thanks,
John

Is this across a system break? If so, try going into Scroll View and entering it there. Are both notes in the same layer or different layers?
It may be that the gliss is not being anchored properly to the start and/or end notes. You can enter a gliss easily between 2 notes by merely double clicking on the first note - the gliss will find the second note and be anchored properly.

No system breaks and both notes are in the same layer. I tried to enter them in scroll view but I got the same results. I always double click to attach. I don't get it. I wonder what made it happen?

If you haven't already, I'd suggest the 2 basic Finale troubleshooting techniques:
√ Shut down and restart the computer
√ Check and if necessary replace the Finale preferences:

The problem was because even though the first note was regular notation I used slash notation in the measure. So, that's the culprit. You cannot use slash notation at all in a measure otherwise the glissando won't stay revealed.

With a little fake-out, you can get the gliss to stick. For the first beat of the slash measure, just enter a regular note, change the notehead to the slash character, hide the stem, and the gliss will think it's attaching to a regular note. Use the pitch "G" so the slash appears correctly placed, adjust the gliss a bit and you're through.

Another solution to this old thread that's a little more intuitive/faster:
1. Staff Tool > Define Staff Styles > New
2. Call it whatever you want and click "Settings" next to "Alternate Notation"
3. Select "Slash Notation," "Apply To: Layer 2," and show everything in the other layers
4. Enter your notes with the glissando as you wish in Layer 1
5. Apply the new staff style to whatever part(s) of the bar you want slashes in
6. Hide the notes/rests you want covered by slashes in layer 1 by using the "Hidden Notation" staff style or highlighting each note in simple/speedy entry and pressing "h"
Hope that helps someone!
