Hi all,
Firstly thanks for all the informative responses that I read through, and the selfless help that you all give, much appreciated. I know you probably don't need any thanks but it doesn't hurt to offer it anyways.
I have a participant in one of my sessions who wants to dabble with a treble (alto) recorder. now rather than learn new fingering they would like to read it as if it was transposed. I create most parts for the group anyway so not really a problem for me. I have added a staff for alto recorder and customised the staff to transpose up a perfect 5th can I edit the instruments configuration file and if so what is it called these days. I would like to be able to choose it in the drop down list in the score manager possibly named AltoRecTrans or something equally memorable.
I used to do this for Baritone (and possibly tenor sax?) so that when I looked in concert pitch they were 8vb treble as my bass clef reading skill are not as refined.
TIA
Cliff

As far as I know, you can't. In previous versions of Finale (pre 2012?) you could edit the configuration file because it was a simple text file. Beginning in Finale 2012 the file format was changed and the software used to create it is not generally available to folks like you and me. That's my understanding, anyway.saxutopia wrote:…can I edit the instruments configuration file…
If you want to avoid having to reconfigure the recorder stave every time you start a new file, I'd suggest making a template(s) for the instrumentation you need and starting a new file directly on the template, rather than going thru the Setup Wizzard.

OK thanks N.
That's a backward step then as far as I can see, as I would think that to be able to customise the text config file was a pretty good selling feature.
Thanks for prompt reply. Templates are great but my participants are constantly changing so it would have been a very nice to have. I've not written for saxes in a while so that will be a pain. I guess I will have to write on sacrificial treble cliffs then drag and drop to the Tenor and Baritone saxes when I'm done.
