Exporting smartscore x2 pro file to Finale 25...

I recently upgraded my Smartscore to the latest and greatest, but when I tried exporting to Finale, it began to open Finale 2008, and then was asking me to install an older version of Java, so I stopped trying. Any ideas why it would be opening with 2008 and not Finale 25? Also, when I just saved the file as .xml, Finale 25 wouldn't recognize it. Is there some location that Finale 25 should be instead of 2008? Has anyone had this issue? I got no help from Musitek, hoping someone here can set me straight...
Brian

OS 10.12.6
Smartscore X2 Pro
Finale 25

From F25, were you trying to simply open the XML? You need to bring it in via File > Import...

2008 was probably your last Fin version. Smartmusic can't call Fin 25 so it defaulted to 2008. You can still use 2008, save the file it makes and open it in Fin 25. I keep 2014.5 around for just some of these certain circumstance where Fin 25 doesn't cooperate well.

Ignore that. The Mac version doesn't work that way.

First off, you need to install an older version of Java. JRE 8 is 64 bit only and SmartScore x2 Pro is 32 bit. Apple maintains the build of JRE 6 that you need.

If you Save XML and open in Finale, it will open a 32 bit version (If there's a preference setting to change that, I've never found it). So don't do that.

Save the .enf or .xml. Now open 25 and
You need to bring it in via File > Import...
You can also specify that all .xml and .enf files open in Finale 25 by right-clicking on one, opening Get Info and specifying open all in Finale. I would not do it for .xml because MusicXML is not the only file type that uses the .xml suffix. With .enf, you're ok.

On a Mac, you can change the extension from XML to MXL and Finale will recognize the type and automatically open the MXL file as a new .MUS file when clicked.

On my Mac, I created a "Quick Action" in Automator that will change the extension automatically. I simply right-click the XML file(s), go to "Quick Actions" and select "XML to MXL" and the extensions are changed. It saves quite a bit of time. I have attached the Automator file for anyone who wants to use it. There are certainly more elegant and useful options for those who know more about Automator than I.

Again, MusicXML is not the only file type that uses the .xml suffix. We’re I to do that on my Mac, it would royally screw up my system.

Glad it works for you.
