The slur tool — bizarre happenings with hairpins and with octave lines which jump or remove themselves when I re-draw. The hairpin is less serious as I can use cresc. or dimin... but the octave lines !!

Any help gratefully received.

Does this happen with every Finale file, or just one?

First, try restarting the computer. Next, try exporting the file as an XML, and re-importing it.

Hello again, Miker...
The XML is useful in that it showed me why the octave lines are not responding... (I am currently involved in a complicated score).

I tried the same trick with another piece where a minim chord has placed itself just before a bar line and I cannot identify it, and therefore erase it. Any ideas here ?

I am afraid I cannot upload a small screen shot of the illegal notes.

Moving items is sometimes connected to Independent elements (TS or KS) in staff attributes. Worth checking.

Bizarre, I just tried deleting a few measures and the offending minims reappear before the deleted measures !

It sounds like the notes are overfilled in the preceding measure. If you can attach your file, we may be able to help you,

This problem no longer comes under the heading of "slur tool".... should I move it to another new post ?

I have tried deleting 3 bars, the guilty one plus the adjacent, without any success. I have also tried to clear all items, which does work until I introduce new bars.

In the meantime how do I attach the file ? And should I send the complete piece ?

Thank you for your interest.

You can just send a few measures containing the offending notes. Make a copy of the score, delete everything ahead and behind the area you want to post, and go to the Upload Attchment tab just under the reply box.

Don't worry about the topic title.

If you can provide an excerpt that still has the problem, do that. Otherwise, attach the whole file. When you make a posting, below the box there is a tab "Upload attachment." Click that.

That half note is actually from bar 40.

Yes--clear the top staff of measure 40 and start over. The whole notes in layers 2 and 3 shouldn't be there. To create the tremolo, enter the two notes as dotted quarters, then apply the plug-in.

(The piece title has a typo, by the way.)

It looks like the plugin was already used. The right half of the tremolo is in Bar 48.

You say dotted quarters, but the bar is actually 4/4. I wonder what that's all about? This file has some quirkiness in it.
