As you can see, I want to add a glock trill to the snare drum staff, but it's really squirrelly when I try to write a glock part. I can't write any higher than G and I can't get rid of those let-ring ties. Is there a way to tell Finale that we're now playing mallets?

If you use the "Change Instrument" utility to switch to glockenspiel, the notation will appear as you would expect.

The attached file goes from Snare to Glockenspiel and back.
Since it's hard to tell from your original post what the real problem is, it's hard to know how to suggest a solution. Maybe you can attach your file.

P.S.: I forgot about the Glock Trill. Generally, that indicates a roll on the same pitch. If that is what you want, the attached below has that, also from the hit movie.
