I merged 4 Finale files today. The score was mostly normal, minus one measure I had to fix. But when I opened the parts (edit parts), only the 1st 3 pages are ok...then it's just a bunch of squished notes and no more pages! Is there a fix for this? I've attached a photo.

The first thing to do is to unlock systems in each part. Select All then Shift/Command/L. Next Update Layout - Select All then Command/U. That might sort it.

THANK YOU!!!! That did it! I will write that down for next time :)

Of course, now I have to rearrange things and new movements have moved onto previous pages so I'll have to move those systems back on to the next page. Titles are gone, but I can add those back in.

If you have turned off "Automatic Update Layout" in your preferences, that's a bad idea. You should turn it back on and leave it on.

The locked system was the real problem. With many measures locked into one system, updating the layout doesn't do too much good, as it won't unlock the systems.

I'm surprised it spilled outside the margins like that (which one sees with an un-updated layout).

In the past I've seen turning it off suggested as a way to get around Finale respacing measures (Automatic Music Spacing and Automatic Update Multimeasure Rests are the real culprits). Since such a suggestion is ill-advised, I like to check and make sure if it looks like someone may have taken that advice.

For the notes off the page, Update Layout should do something, but since we can't examine the file, it's hard to speculate.

P.S.: I just tested it. Regardless of Update Layout, when enough notes are crammed into one system, it will spill off the page. Just can't be helped.
