I wrote out a harp glissando so the playback works. Now I want to hide the notes and write standard notation for a gliss, but when I hide the notes they don't play back. When I play around with the hidden notes for a while they start to play back again... so what's the secret? I know it's possible: whenever one uses the Easy Tremolos plug-in, one can "Show Hidden Notes" and see the 16ths or 32nds or 64ths for the playback to sound out.
I don't want to look at this everytime:
Hide but keep playback.

What method are you using to hide the notes?
A common solution is to hide Layer 4.
Then you can have the Playback notes in Layer 4.

Are you suggesting I can set a layer to automatically hide using the Score Manager? I should specify I use MIDI playback and export to MIDI files, and would like the playback there.
I'll usually use Speedy Entry and press "H" on the keyboard to hide... I've also used the Notes and Rests (Hide) plug-in. No matter which I use in whatever layer, the notes don't play back in MIDI. For some reason once I fiddle around with it enough the notes will play, but I don't want to play around with glissandi for 30 minutes everytime.

If you use H to hide the note, it mutes the note. If you look in the Speedy Edit Frame, Playback is now unchecked.
If you use Jari's JW Change plugin, using the feature to hide the notes does not mute them. If you have already hidden the notes manually, use the plugin to reverse the automatic muting. It's a powerful plugin. If you don't have it, get it.

Alternate Notation
where you can choose “Blank Notation” or “Blank Notation with Rests” as an Alternate Notation (e. g. for Layer 4).
Alternate Notation can be done in the Staff Attributes (= globally, for all the measures in the document), or with a staff style (= locally).

In this thread the Original Poster wanted to hide the notation, but still keep the playback.
From your question it sounds like you are trying to both hide the notation and mute the playback - right?

An easy way is to select the region and apply the JW Change plug-in -> Note Entries -> Playback -> Mute and select a Layer.
