In the past I have been able to move a measure, or measures, to a previous system by selecting it and hitting the up or down key (Page view). Now, nothing happens. I've made sure that the system is unlocked and there is enough space to accommodate the selection I wish to move.

Is this a glitch/bug or am I just missing something. It worked fine when I was writing a show last winter using the same version of Finale and the same hardware.

You need to do that from the Selection tool.

Also, make sure that in Preferences > Edit the following options are set.

Thanks for the replies. To answer your posts:

1. I am doing thing through the selection tool.
2. Those are the current settings in preferences. The only difference being that automatic update layout and automatic music spacing are also checked.

Think I've found the issue. When I uncheck automatic update layout and automatic music spacing it works as I remember it. Can't figure what that would have to do with it, but for now your suggestions leading to my detective work have given me a workaround.

Thanks!

Actually your latest comments suggest that your original problem might have been cured by doing a manual Update Layout (Utilities Menu). Even though Finale has a "Automatic Update Layout" setting, it only "kicks in" every so often. When certain features become unresponsive and you're between auto updates, a manual update usually gets things moving again.

As someone who uses Finale all day, every day, I'd suggest you keep "Auto Update" active at all times. Otherwise you might experience performance lapses a lot more often.

I'm afraid that makes no sense. N's screenshot has automatic update layout checked. Are you sure you don't have it backwards? That would explain your symptoms.

I never have to do a manual Update Layout, for what it's worth.

Nope. Both of the options I mentioned were checked in the document. When I unchecked them, I was able to move the measure without a problem.

I plan to leave those options checked as they seem to run in the background. I will use my workaround only when I can't get a measure(s) to move before printing.

This particular medley has some music from Finale 3.0 (!) as well as some that was written in Finale 25. It would probably help me if I just copied the parts in my newest template to eliminate strange issues cropping up but this particular document was 479 measures long with 20 parts. I'm trying to avoid tedium in my old age:)

Thanks again for the suggestions. Such help really makes this forum worth while.
