Are you using keyswitch instruments?

(I know nothing about it; but this is an answer I've seen many times!)

No! I just changed them to KS. I've got the pizz but it's not a Bartok Pizz, i.e. snap pizz.

Thanx.

you will only get a bartok pizz if there is one in the sound library.

as far as I know there isn't one in Garritan Instruments for Finale. They MAY have added one since.
User of Finale since version 3.0 on Windows.
Now using a mix of Finale 2012, Finale 25, and 26.1
GPO, Garritan Solo Stradivari violin, Gofriller Solo Cello.

Of course, makes perfect sense. Where is the sound library? I'll search but if you know would you please
post it?

you would have to buy a sound library that contains the specific sound you require.

I'm not sure, but in the Garritan that comes with Finale there might be a bartok pizz in one of the additional string directories. you'd have to search through them from the Aria player.

So far there's a marking but no sound. Might have to spring for Garritan Orchestra. The sounds
that come with Finale are good and plentiful. Bartok Pizz isn't an everyday articulation.

Unfortunately Garritan Personal Orchestra AKA GPO doesn't have Bartok pizz either. East West's Symphonic Orchestra does but integrating EWSO into Finale and making it work well isn't for the feint of heart. I don't bother. I just export to midi and bring things into a DAW (Studio One these days) and edit in the various articulations.

I'm arranging a tune for a client and the opening is an acoustic guitar striking the string with a pick. It's similar to a BP.
I'm thinking of giving the BP to the Violin 2 and a f pizz to the Viola in order to recreate the sound of the guitar.

Since the Bartok Pizz isn't available maybe I can create one. Of course I'm totally ignorant of how to do
this, meaning I've not tried creating or modifying articulations, expressions, sounds or anything else.

Does anybody have experience with this endeavor? This will be interesting.

There is a bartok pizz in the Garritan Personal Orchestra library. The library is quite inexpensive and easy to use compared to the alternatives.

In the GPO library, you would have to look in GPO 5 instruments, then in Garritan Orchestral Strings, then Section Strings, then Basses, and then Basses Additional Techniques. "Snap pizz" (bartok pizz) is in that folder.

Michael, thanx!
That would be the GPO Library that's not in Finale. I'm going to get it. Maybe after I get paid for the
arrangement I'm doing.

Of course, hearing the Bartok Pizz is for my listening.

The full version of GPO has considerably more choice in instruments, as well as actually differentiating between 1st and 2nd violin.

Another option instead of GPO is https://www.noteperformer.com/.

I recently found out about it does many things such as Bartok pizz. It might be worth checking out.
