copy dynamic or articulation markings to all parts

Say I want to give every part in a score an "sfz" or a hairpin in the same measure. Is there a shortcut, instead of having to click each part individually, select from the expression tool, etc?

Hi There,

You can actually copy/paste in Finale using filters.
  • Edit > Edit Filter: Check the boxes for the specific things you want to copy
  • Edit > Use Filter: Make sure this option is checked
  • Copy/Paste like normal
  • When done, Edit > Use Filter: Make sure this option is unchecked so copy/paste works how you'd expect
About a year ago the Finale Blog did a post on this that you might wish to check out: https://www.finalemusic.com/blog/finale ... save-time/

Hope this helps,

Nick

If you select the source with the Selection tool and then Cltr+Alt+click in the topmost destination measure, there's an option to copy to all staves to the bottom at once.

One more thing: Actually, I can't seem to get crescendo marks to copy. And, with other items it asks which staves to assign the expression. It doesn't seem to just copy+paste. I made sure that smart shapes are included in the filter.

Is "Smart Shapes (Attached to Measures)" checked in the filter? Is the hairpin attached to the measure you want to copy from? Alt/Click on the handle to make sure the attachment is OK.

If the hairpin spans more than one measure, all the measures it spans must be selected for it to copy.

Another method : drag a vertical rectangle over the notes in all staves and select the expression or articulation.

The easiest way to copy hairpins to other staves is with Jari's JW pattern plugin.

When I try to copy articulation to multiple staves, I'm not getting that option it the box (see screenshot). This is what always seems to happen when I try it with smart shapes, but articulations used to work. Any ideas? Filter is checked for articulations.

That screen shot doesn't show a Finale dialogue box. Maybe we need more info and a better screen shot.

That link doesn't work for me. Can't see a thing. Can't you just attach the picture to your post the normal way? That is better for us.

I'm working on it, but unable to paste the shot. But, when I Rclick on an accent, the only choices in the dialogue box are:
edit articulation definition
remove manual adjustments
show (which is checked)
unlink
relink (which is grey)
delete

I don't get the choice to copy to all staves, of copy to staves

You need to highlight the measure in the Selection tool, then you can copy using the filter, either with Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V, or by various mouse clicks. Read up on it in the manual.

I have a related issue and cannot find a solution, despite lots of reading and attempts.

My score has an organ part (grand staff). I have 3 parts that the source is the bass clef (left hand) staff of the organ part. Two of the 3 parts need to be transposing.

I began with properly placing dynamics, 'hairpins', etc. between the 2 staffs of the grand staff. I then properly moved elements below the single bass clef staff in the first linked (non-transposing) part. The 2 other parts retain the placement of elements in the score. I cannot copy the altered placements from the first part to the other 2, via Finale or any JW plug-in.

Surely I cannot be the first person to ever need this function. Surely I should not have to repeat ever single tweak for each transposing part.

Suggestions?

(I'm running Finale 25.5 on MacOS 10.13.6. Please don't suggest 'upgrading' either.)

I am sorry, but I am having trouble understanding your description of the layout.

1) The organ part is a two-staff layout, not a three-staff layout - right? (= no pedal staff?)

2) There are 4 parts: 3 one-staff parts, and the organ part (which has two staves grouped as a Grand Staff) - right?

3) All three one-staff parts are playing the same music as the organ Bass Clef staff (left hand) - right?

4) Two of the one-staff parts are transposing parts - right?
The last one-staff part is not transposing (= in C) - right? and so is the organ part - right?

5) What is the part order, from top to bottom?
Where are the two transposing parts? and where is the organ part?

6) What clefs are used in the parts?

7) What are the transpositions in the two transposing parts?
