Error message trying to save file
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
I'm doing some edits and now I can't save the work I've done. No matter what name I call it or folder (desktop or flash drive), it says Error 0 moving file or Error 2 copying files, can't fine location, can't save file, etc.
I'm using 2014.5 finale and windows 7 professional. PC is old and low memory. Is that the issue?
Help! I need to save the work I've done today.

This is most likely the chronic issue with .tmp files. I have created a unique folder for Finale .tmp files, and never have this problem.

Try exporting an XML file, then reopen that in Finale. That might save your work.

It's really worrying that MM hasn't fixed this. As a career software engineer, I think I can say with confidence that one should be able to find and fix this bug in short order, a couple of days at most. It sounds like MM is not creating and/or locking the temporary files properly, and some Windows task is deleting them, thinking they're unused, which is why putting them in another directory works. It's also possible to use temporary files in such a way as to never have leave old ones around (even if the program crashes)--a separate, less serious issue, but another instance of not doing things right.

Hope it solves the problem. It did for me.

In the article, the only "real" solution to the design problem MakeMusic refuses to fix is the suggestion (or requirement) to designate a unique folder for Finale temp (.tmp) files. I have a different folder for each version of Finale. I've never had a problem with finale not finding .tmp files when saving and closing. Even more important is to empty those folders very often.Wagnersmusic wrote:Here is the answer I believe to your problem.
