Values from one measure extend to another in same layer

In layer 2 of my score, there is a measure where a half rest is appearing in the previous measure; thus one measure is two beats short, and the prior one has an unwanted rest. I can't seem to edit it by clearing items, speedy entry etc.

Hard to say without seeing it. Can you post the Finale file here, or at least the few measures in question?

Layer 2. Speedy Entry, click on measure 2. Delete that half rest.

Somehow the half rest in the second measure got moved too far to the left. You can clear the second measure and re-enter it, or change Document options / Music spacing / Manual positioning to "Clear" and respace it (you probably want to put the setting back afterwards).

Thanks. The only way I got it to work was by clearing the measure.

Special Tools can be used to clear the rest position. Also, Jaris JW Change plugin can easily do it. There are many tools for just this issue.

What I want to know is: how did the rest get moved there?
