The print box has disappeared in Finale 25. Just recently. Changing the default printer doesn't help or do anything. Restarting Finale doesn't do anything.

I recall having seen this reported on the forum in the past. I don't remember the details.

I sometimes get a strange behavior in the lyric tool where words I entered disappear. Restarting the computer cures things. No need to recreate preferences. I'm sure you did a reboot, but one never knows.

Yup, thanx, guys but I have done all the easy first stuff. I have seen the zendesk article. Doesn't help, reboot doesn't help. And, it is only Finale that doesn't want to print. Word, Photoshop and the rest are all working properly. I need to print as I have a rehearsal coming up Saturday.

So, no one else is suffering from this?

Doesn’t look like it.

Since you have both 14.5 and 25, did you check to see if they are both affected? Maybe you can print from the other one.

14.5 is on my laptop. 25 is on my desktop which has my 32" monitor. If it comes to it, I can grab the laptop but that does not correct the problem. It was fine last week.

BTW, MM finally got back to me well over 24 hours later and suggested I do the zendesk tip. It was clearly stated in my query that I had already tried it.
Is this the new MM customer service tech people?

Just to be sure: you have tried changing your default printer in the control panel to something other than Microsoft Print to PDF, then restarting Finale?

Yes sir, I did it several times and rebooted several times. However, a printer never was displayed in the box and still isn't. Not MS PDF thing or one of my own. I have three.
Zachary the MM guy said I could print without anything showing in the box but that won't work either since the parts and score are different sizes. I can't print blind.
I am going to try to do a revert to previous Windows 10 update and see if that helps.

There's a button that says Check Current, meaning print whatever part or score you're on. Try clicking that.

Yeah, my school is still using Win 7 so we don't see it there. One thing that makes me believe it is a MS thing so I will try the revert back. Tomorrow!

My wife has a Win 10 laptop, so I have some knowledge of it, but not with Finale. One thing is that Win 10 keeps wanting to use its own drivers instead of the manufacturer's. We sometimes get a dark screen, and have to reinstall the laptop's own video card driver again. It always follows a Win 10 update. In fact, maybe this problem you have is a video driver issue. You might look into that before restoring a previous stage.

Just did a update of my sound and video driver. They all had the latest update. Still not luck and MM has not responded yet.

I got another reply from MM this afternoon. They sure aren't very quick or responsive. Maybe they just have one guy doing all the CS?

Unfortunately, the instructions in that Knowledge Base article will be the only way to get the print box as it is supposed to be. This is due to the new print driver in Windows 10 called Microsoft Print to PDF. We have no control over this driver so changing the default printer in Windows itself is the only fix for this empty dialog box. If this solution in that Knowledge Base article does not work for your specific printer, then using the Export to PDF feature is the only other solution unfortunately. Our development team is aware of this issue but because printers and printer drivers vary so much there are a lot of different factors that prevent a quick fix.

BTW, it doesn't work with any of my printers. An HP a Epson and a Canon, plus the CutePDF doesn't show up either.

I sent this email to Mark Adler. I guess he is still there in a leadership role?

Mark I am having difficulties printing with Finale 25.5 and Win 10. I have contacted support several times and they have given up. This isn’t acceptable.

Already did the Zendesk work around and it does not work. Uninstalled Finale and reinstalled it and that didn’t work either.
It Is not MS job to see that Finale works with Win 10. It is Finale’s job to see that it works with Win 10. I talked the school district USD#231 into buying Finale instead of Sibelius.
How do you think this makes me look now that we can’t print? Plus, you have a new release coming out and people can’t print?

You gotta fix this and ASAP.

Just got done with a MS tech. He spent more time with me than MM did (over an hour). We got the pdf maker to show up and I printed my score to pdf. So far the parts don't show up but that may be that I just have not done a Manager Parts yet.

If all you want is to make PDFs of the score and parts, why didn't you just use Finale's Graphics Tool? I'm probably missing some details, but that might have saved you some frustration.

Oh, and I'd suggest you install Finale 2014.5 on both of your computers - you might have had no problems just seamlessly switching to 2014.5 for this printing job. The imminent release of v26 might mean some lingering problems so having extra tools at your disposal might be the way to go. Yeah, piss and moan about that, but I'm a big one for covering my own butt and getting on with business.

Yeah you are right. I need to fix it myself. I can put 2014.5 back on this computer. I just took it off a few months ago.
But apparently killing the new MS to pdf printer has allowed me to use CutePDF at least for now. I am not going to shut Finale down either!
