Selection tool doesn't work - Ver. 2014.5 - Mac

My selection tool doesn't work. I can't select all, and I can't select single measures for cutting and pasting. This is affecting all functions requiring selection: repeats, transpose, key signature, etc. Has anybody run into this problem? - Murray

Manually update the layout by pressing Command/U. If that doesn't work, shut Finale down and restart. If that doesn't work, check and restore the preferences by following these instructions:

I have a similar problem with 2014.5/Windows. Rather frequently I experience a partial freeze, I find that I am unable to select anything (like for instance Simple Entry, Time Signature Tool, etc) and it is only the Playback that remains operating. Closing the open file and reopening it always solves the problem. Not even closing/relaunching Finale is needed. I noticed that this probably always happens when I listen to something on UTube while Finale is working. Simultaneity does not necessarily mean causation, though.
