I would like to know how to create an articulation that will play back like a dropped or bounced stick. The resulting note should convert, say, a quarter into an initial 32nd or 64th followed by a repetition of the note to fill out the full value. e.g.
The articulations that look like this, for example,
do not actually affect the note.
I could alter one of them but thus far my efforts have not been successful.
Thanks for any suggestions.
create functioning bounce-like articulation

I'd add a stave for playback purposes and then hide it - this stave should contain the dropped stick notation written out, as it should sound. Mute the stave that actually appears; this is the stave that shows the articulations that indicate the dropped stick.
