x instead of dot
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
In some scores of Rautavaara I have seen that he uses a small x symbol instead of dot to notate the full measure of 5/4.
Is there any way to change the dot to another symbol, only for one note?
EDIT (just example):

In the Special Tools Tool there is a Dot (sub-)Tool.
But with the Dot Tool you can only adjust the dot’s position - you can not change neither the font nor the character.
As a workaround you can hide the augmentation dot (e. g. with a custom staff style), and add another symbol (e. g. as a articulation).

You know you can change the font for all dots? Document Options -> Augmentations Dots -> Music Character Select (manual link).OCTO wrote:I just hoped I could change the font for one dot individually.
Obviously you need it for individual dots, which isn't possible, but I just wanted to mention the basic possibilty.

Since if you dot the whole note you'll get 6 beats, which is too many, I would instead enter an undotted whole note, add the x as an articulation, and finish it off with a hidden quarter rest. If you care about playback, then I guess you could make a "4 quarters in the space of 5" tuplet and hide the number and bracket.
If Rautavaara jumped off a cliff, would you?

I think Crumb could jump.motet wrote: If Rautavaara jumped off a cliff, would you?
